What is the dark side of the web?
Claire Bradin Siskin's 1997 "Dark Side of the Web" presentation talked about moving from enthusiasm through frustration to acceptance of the World Wide Web as a teaching tool. A decade later, teachers take Web use for granted but are moving through similar stages as they attempt to use effectively the new tools often known collectively as Web 2.0.
The
pluses of using these tools are clear. The
challenges are equally clear. At CALICO 2008,
we will explore representative uses of these tools and explore what is needed to make them integral parts of language learning.
This wiki is a virtual handout for the presentation and an invitation to use the read/write web to contribute resources, experiences, and thoughts about using collaborative tools for the teaching and learning of languages, literatures, and cultures.
